McCarthy wins 2011 Jumeirah Golf Estates Club Championship

Brian McCarthy shot a second round one over par 73 over the Fire course for a two round total of 150 to win the 2011 Jumeirah Golf Estates Club Championship sponsored by BMW AGMC yesterday (Saturday).

The 36 hole strokeplay format was played over the Earth course on Friday and over the Fire course yesterday (Saturday).

McCarthy, playing off a scratch handicap shot a first round 77 to lie in third place three shots behind first round leader Chris Wilmot (4) and a shot behind Stuart Cameron (2).

Yesterday (Saturday) McCarthy scored a front nine of one over 37 to a 38 from playing partner Wilmot.
This left McCarthy 2 shots behind leader Wilmot but an impressive string of nine pars for a level par 36 from McCarthy and a two over par 38 from Wilmot saw the players tied after the 36 holes of regulation play.
A sudden-death play-off over hole 18 on Fire saw McCarthy keep up his momentum and take the gross title with Wilmot having to settle for the net title.

Other scores of note in the second round saw a gross 74 from Bilbo Perrot to take runner-up in the gross division and Johan Andersson whose 79 gross second round was a 12 shot improvement on his first round to win the best gross on day two.
