Sponsors lauded for raising the profile of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters

Smiles and a sense of accomplishment marked the golf in DUBAi’s presentation ceremony where sponsors of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters were honoured and recognised for their valuable contribution in making the season-ending Ladies European Tour event a grand success.

H.E. Mohammed Al Shaibani, CEO & Executive Director of the Investment Corporation of Dubai, the flagship holding firm of some of the emirate’s top companies, including golf in DUBAi, presented mementos to the representatives of the sponsors, acknowledging their role in staging an event of this stature and magnitude every year.
Today, the name of Dubai has become synonymous with golf — and a great deal of the city’s popularity as a golf destination is due to the overwhelming success of events like the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters which showcases the world’s leading golfers from both sides of the Atlantic.

Since its inception in 2006, the tournament, held under the patronage of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HHSheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has attracted a large number of international media to Dubai and also helped catalyse the growth of fan base and popularity of women’s game in the UAE and across the region.
With many leading players likening the feel and at atmosphere at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters to what they call “a major” on the Ladies European Tour, the tournament has seen the likes of former world number one Annika Sorenstam of Sweden, Lexi Thompson, China’s Shan Shan Feng and Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum inscribing their names on the trophy.

“Every international sporting event hosted in Dubai has its own appeal and aura, reflecting on the Emirate’s dynamic and innovative sporting culture,” said Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, the promoters and organizers of the euro 500,000 (Dh 2.5 million) event.
“One of the primary motives behind the staging of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is to create a family-like atmosphere so that parents are encouraged to introduce their children to golf, which is of paramount importance for the growth of the game at the grassroots level.
“For us the biggest achievement is when players speak highly about our tournament. And they do. Which is what makes us proud. On this occasion, I take this opportunity to thank Omega, the title sponsor, and DUBAL, the sponsor, for their continued commitment over the years.

“Our family of co-sponsors, made up of CNN, Dubai Drydocks World & Maritime World, Emirates NBD, Gulf News, Mercedes-Benz and Wasl, along with our patrons Carpetland, Dubai Duty Free and Motivate Publishing, all add so much value to the tournament. We are deeply appreciative of their allegiance.
“Last, but by no means least, our deep appreciation goes out to ICD, a vital and key initiative of the Government of Dubai to achieve all-round excellence, for their guidance and support which means a lot for us as we strive and seek a wider role in developing the emirate as a centre of business and leisure excellence,” he added.
