Omega Dubai Ladies Masters News

A gleaming Mercedes-Benz S-Class awaits the first golfer scoring a hole in one at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters

Since the inception of the Ladies European Tour event in 2006, only one player — Tania Elosegui of Spain – has scored a hole-in-one when she aced the seventh in 2009. But no one so far has achieved the feat on the 15th.

Rated as one of the toughest of the par three holes on the Majlis course, the 15th hole, measuring 160 yards, demands much respect because the tee is set at an angle to the green. To ace the hole, a player would need to beat heavy odds.

The odds of making a hole-in-one differ from one survey to another. Many reputed magazines have pegged the odds at one in 3,756 for a professional golfer and one in 12,750 for an amateur.

“A hole-in-one is always a result of talent and luck, but it certainly adds to the excitement of a tournament,” said Frank Bernthaler, Sales and Marketing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars at Daimler Middle East & Levant.

“Being the official car sponsor of the event, we are delighted to offer a Mercedes-Benz
S-Class for anyone accomplishing the feat on the 15th. I am sure it will capture the attention of the tournament,” he added.

Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, the promoters and organizers of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, thanked Mercedes-Benz for adding to the attraction of the event.

“The prize will be talking point among players and will help draw a big gallery to the hole. Holes in one are rare, but they do happen.  For instance, the 2011 Omega Dubai Desert Classic witnessed a hole-in-hole in every round!

“I wish good luck to all players and look forward to seeing someone drive away with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.”
