Zane Scotland appointed as a global brand ambassador of ‘golf in DUBAi’

England’s Zane Scotland has been appointed as a global brand ambassador of ‘golf in DUBAi’ in recognition of his hugely popular image on the MENA Golf Tour.

The former European Tour player joins a celebrated roster of golfers who have been representing ‘golf in DUBAi’ as their ambassador, stars such as Mark O’Meara, Jeev Milkha Singh, Thomas Bjorn, Seung-Yul Noh, Laura Davies and renowned coach Peter Cowen.

With three wins under his belt, the affable Englishman is the only multiple winner on the MENA Golf Tour since its inception in 2011, but it is his ability to connect with emerging players, who look up to him for inspiration, that has made him special.

Once hailed as the next Tiger Woods when he won a nationwide competition, titled Search For A Tiger, aged 14, Scotland has enjoyed a highly successful amateur career in addition to becoming the youngest English player ever to qualify for The Open Championship in 1999.

He turned professional in 2003, but a series of injuries undermined what appeared to be a flourishing career. And, although he won his European Tour card by finishing 96th on the Order of Merit in 2007, a wrist injury he suffered in Munich in 2008 further affected his golf.

The nephew of former Attorney General Baroness Scotland took the MENA Golf Tour route to resurrect his career, and the move paid off with the Englishman finishing second in the Order of Merit standings in 2012.

He is looking to go one better this season after seizing the early initiative with an emphatic win at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam Open and a tied second at the Royal Golf D’Anfa Open, the opening two events on the 2013 MENA Golf Tour schedule.

“What ‘golf in DUBAi’ is doing for the overall development of golf, especially in the MENA region, is just awesome. It’s an honour to join their celebrated family of ambassadors,” said the 30-year-old, who was born in Manchester and educated at The John Fisher School in Surrey.
“golf in DUBAi is old hand when it comes promoting and organizing world-class events like the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, and their experience is reflected on the MENA Golf Tour which has grown tremendously in popularity and stature in a short time.”
Welcoming Scotland to the ‘golf in DUBAi’ family, Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, commented: “Zane is a fine player whose on-course performance creates quite an excitement. Like everyone, we are really impressed by his outstanding golf talent, dedication and natural flair.
“Being young and successful, he could be the ideal role model for players on MENA Golf Tour which is basically aimed at providing emerging talent from the region, in particular, a platform to take their to the next level.

“Zane is joining our team at an exciting time when we plan to further expand the MENA Golf Tour schedule by travelling to more countries in the region.”
‘golf in DUBAi’ is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and DUBAL as the sponsor. The co-sponsors are: CNN, Drydocks World & Maritime World, Emirates NBD, Gulf News, Mercedes-Benz and wasl while Dubai Duty Free, Carpetland and Motivate are the Patrons in golf in DUBAi’s drive to showcase the emirate’s vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
