Young Omar and Reema win EGC Par3 league titles

Khalifa Omar saw off a determined challenge from his closest rivals to win the final event of the UAE Nationals Par-3 League in warm and windy conditions at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club on Friday.

 

Inspired by the presence of some of the leading UAE golfers, Omar played steady golf to post his second successive win in Division A of the league which was organized by the Emirates Golf Federation as part of its National Junior Programme to introduce young UAE nationals to golf.
Ahmed Skaik, who won the nearest to the pin prize on hole nine for the second time a row, finished a creditable second in the event which exposed youngsters to a healthy competition.

The Division B turned out to be a family affair with Reema Al Heloo beating her younger brother Obaid Al Heloo on a countback. The event once again received a tremendous response with as many as 23 youngsters, accompanied by their parents and friends, lining up for honours.
Adding to the festive atmosphere was the presence of senior players Musharrekh brothers – Abdulla and Ahmed – and Khalid Yousuf who not only watched the proceedings, but also conducted on-the-spot clinics to provide valuable golfing tips to the participants.

“It’s nice to see the growing enthusiasm for the game among the children, and I am sure with time, they will learn the basics of the game,” said Abdulla.

“The par-3 league is a great initiative by the Emirates Golf Federation and we have to keep the momentum going by creating more such healthy competitions,” he added.
Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation, thanked the players and their parents for supporting the league. “The very intention behind organizing the league was to promote and develop the game at the grassroots level. Creating a strong pool of junior players is paramount to producing futuregeneration of champions,” he said.
