Young Emiriati kids enrolled in the National Junior Programme enjoy Mark O Meara clinic

Young kids enrolled with the National Junior Programme spoke of their delight after attending a golf clinic conducted by two-time Major winner Mark O’Meara during the just-concluded Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Maryam Al Marzouqi, Ahmad Al Marzouqi and Amna Al Marzouqi were among a host of Emirati juniors who attended the clinic at the driving range of the Emirates Golf Club.

Amna, who was adjudged the Most Improved Golfer at a recent Junior Development Programme session, organised by the Emirates Golf Federation, at the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club, said: “It was fun attending the clinic and he (O’Meara) showed how to grip a golf club, how to align your stance straight while touching upon the basics of the game.

“He also told us that many shots are spoiled at the last instant by efforts to add a few more yards. I will try and put into practice the lessons learnt at the clinic.”

O’Meara, who is also a golf in DUBAi ambassador said: “At this early stage, learning golf skills is less important than just having fun. Once you have that enthusiasm, you’ll work on it yourselves,” he told the students.

“Golf, of course, is becoming very popular in this part of the world, but the golfing authorities must concentrate on having a strong base if they aim to produce a future generation of champions,” he added.
