Young Emirati golfer Marzouqi wins 2 day play off to start in the 2013 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

Young Emirati golfer invited to play in the European Tour desert swing opening tournament in Abu Dhabi
Sohail Al Marzouqi won a two day play off over the Fire course and the Abu Dhabi National golf course on the 28th and 29th December to win himself a place in the field for the 2013 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

The weather was extreme on the Friday at the Fire course with the wind and a sand storm making scoring very difficult. Saturday was a bit easier and Sohail played steady golf to maintain his first round lead.

“This is a fantastic opportunity that the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (tournament organisers) and HSBC has provided for me” said the twenty year old Engineering student. ” I obviously want to do my best, but it is also important to enjoy the whole experience, you never know when it will come around again.”

Marzouqi is a product of the Junior Development Programme that was started by the Emirates Golf Federation fifteen years ago. Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the Emirates Golf Federation: “It is very rewarding to see one of our young players develop into an established player, skilled enough to play in a global event as big as this alongside the best golfers in the world. I would like to extend my thanks on behalf of the Federation and the board, to the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and HSBC for providing this opportunity to Sohail, they have always been very supportive of Emirati players which is very important to the development of our players in the UAE.”
