Yas Links Order of Merit August 2010

Golf in the UAE tends to be significantly quieter during the summer with many players travelling abroad to cooler climates. This means the clubs in the UAE have to offer some special deals to encourage players to get out and play.

During the month of August Yas Links Abu Dhabi teamed up with the hotels on Yas Island; The Yas Rotana, Radisson Blu, The Yas Hotel, and The Crowne Plaza to create a month long Order of Merit Competition. The events provided not just a chance to play the UAE’s newest golf course with a tournament environment, but also offered great value including golf and lunch in the clubhouse. The prizes supplied from the partnering hotels ranged from hotel stays for 2 people, to a fantastic meal for two people in one of the Yas Island Hotels, with the overall tournament winner claiming a nights stay in the amazing Yas Hotel and complimentary round of golf at Yas Links.

The winners for the events are as follows: August 1st, 1st Place: Pieter Van Wyk, 2nd Place: Monina Gudaca. August 9th, 1st Place: John Leyland, 2nd Place: Brett Kraetzer. August 17th, 1st Place: Jose Rolando Escaner III, 2nd Place: Monina Gudaca. August 25th, 1st Place: Emanuel Ostojic (Yas Links Member) 2nd Place: Steve Blades. The overall order of Merit Winner was Monina Gudaca, who has 4 wonderful, scores of 36,30,37,36.

Robert Turner, Tournament Coordinator said “We are really happy with the entries that we received for these weekly competitions throughout August, and it is something which we will definitely be hoping to do again in the future. Ramadan proves to be a difficult time to attract golfers from around the UAE as many people are away, or find it too hot to play.
