Yas Links Abu Dhabi opens 18 holes for the first time

Yas Links Abu Dhabi ready for the public

Yas Links Abu Dhabi presented the much anticipated 18 hole golf course to the public this weekend for the very first time.

Excitement has been building over the last 2 months with the anticipation of the first true links golf course to open in the Middle East.   Yas Links Abu Dhabi is the latest golf addition to come online in the UAE. Located on the western shores of Yas Island the links course boasts 8 holes running along the coastline with all 18 offering views of the Arabian Gulf and 130,000 mangrove plantation.

As a semi private club Yas Links has a strong membership base and has put together a comprehensive tournament schedule throughout the year.  Friday saw the first member’s event with a strong field battling to win the first competition on the full 18 holes.  Dan Weisser won the event with a score of 37 Points.

On Saturday though Yas Links was unveiled to members, guests and media who played in a Texas Scramble event.  A full field of around 200 golfers played in true summer conditions to win some of the fantastic prizes up for grabs, provided by the Yas Island Hotels; The Yas Hotel, Crowne Plaza, Raddison Blu, Park Inn, The Centro and The Yas Island Rotana. The four ball of Sabine Wiedenbruch, Thomas Wiedenbruch, Liu Xihiu, and Stuart Halliwell were victorious with an impressive round of nett 57.

Rob Duckworth, The Breakfast Show presenter from Radio 2, one of the players from Saturday’s event said “found it difficult to believe that we were playing a course that is so young yet so mature. It was as though we were playing a course that had been open for years and not days.”
Due to construction schedules the course was opened in 2 phases with the front 9 ready for play on April 1st.

It had been projected that the full 18 holes would not be ready until early July, yet those who had the chance to play could not believe the course had not been played before.
