Welcome to on Tour with Carolina Acebo

It has been a roller coaster Golfing journey for Dubai based Golfer Carolina Acebo

It has been a roller coaster Golfing journey for Dubai based Golfer Carolina Acebo, which is now coming full circle.
Carolina originates from San Luis in Mexico and descends from a true golfing family. In Mexico, her Grandfather actually built the Golf Club Campestre de San Luis Mexico and 5 of Carolinas 7 sisters have all cut their golfing teeth there.

If you read her Golfing History (below) Carolina had a promising Junior career at a very high level which included captaining the Junior Mexican National Team where a certain Lorena Ochoa played with her in the same team. She also won the Mexican Ladies Order of Merit in 1999 as a Junior which is not easy in any country.
Having moved to Dubai 3 years ago, Carolina has now decided to turn Professional and will embark on the Honda Hero Women’s Golf Tour of India which has a total of 15 events around the ever-growing phenomenon that is Indian Golf.  The tour commences in Bangalore in August and culminates in Mumbai in March 2012 and will be a stern test for Carolina and one that she is relishing. Following the Honda Tour she then will immediately start on the Ladies European Access Series which also starts in March 2012 to try and gain entry to the LET.

“I am looking forward to joining the Hero Honda Women’s Golf Tour. Being based here in Dubai gives me great access to Asia and Europe. It will be a big challenge but I am ready physically and mentally. Preparations have been ongoing for months and I am feeling very happy and comfortable with my game and I am sure the tour will bring out the best in me. We will arrive 10 days before the first event on 15th August to acclimatize and get to check out and play the courses in Bangalore which I cannot wait to do.”

On the point about turning pro now, Carolina has no problems with her decision “I Feel the time is right to turn Pro after having played Amateur at the top level for a long time. I can become a better player as my time will be focused totally on my game.”
Then asked her about why go Pro now and what about the gap since she was a junior, Carolina replied “Your never to late to do anything. Golf has been a major part of my life having been raised on my Grandfathers Golf Course in Mexico. I opted to stay Amateur and pursue my education in Switzerland and then the Far East. This gave me great experience and to play many Amateur tournaments globally to keep my game in order.”

Carolina’s expectations are global, she commented “My expectations are very very high, I am confident with everything in my game and my state of mind.  As the Apollo 13 flight commander said “FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION.”

Carolina’s Guru and coach, Phil Fenton who has been an established part of the Dubai Golfing scene for several years has helped put the schedule together and knows it is a tough one. For the last year and a half Carolina Acebo’s practice schedule has been his schedule too. It’s also been a revealing journey for Phil and Carolina into the level of commitment Tour pros have to complete to get to the high professional level of a world class player.

“I have been working very hard with my coaches and Guru Phil. My short game is coming on very strong after many many hours spent chipping and putting on the practice greens.”
During her long hours of practicing and training, Carolina has been given some expert advice on her swing from Jebel Ali Head Pro Stuart Fee and she commented “Stuart, my coach has been looking after all parts of my swing. He is very articulate in his teaching and I am very comfortable with the manner in which he has conducted everything in his own very professional way. Stuart is a tough taskmaster and Phil keeps me focused 100% on my game, so I have had tremendous support and guidance so far and it is time for me to do the talking on the Courses.”

Carolina’s recent Practice schedule
