Wave Course Designer Greg Norman Praises Second National Bank of Oman Golf Classic

On the eve of the second edition of the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic, course designer Greg Norman sent his best wishes to everyone involved in the tournament, saying: “I still regard The Wave as one of the finest golf courses we have created anywhere in the world. “I couldn’t have been more pleased to read all the accolades the tournament and the course received last year, particularly from the players. It was another first for me to have had the privilege to design the only golf course to host a professional tournament in Oman and in the GCC.
“The Wave is a wonderful venue for the European Challenge Tour event. It’s situated in a spectacular setting on the shores of the ocean, with first-class facilities. I’m sure this week will be another resounding success and I wish all involved a great week of golf.”
The CEO of The Wave Muscat, Hawazen Esber, said:  “It’s an exciting milestone for The Wave to be hosting its second National Bank of Oman Golf Classic at Almouj Golf.

“We are justly proud to be able to facilitate a world-class golfing venue which can attract and challenge some of the best emerging young golfers in the world. Through the support of the National Bank of Oman the tournament has helped to position the country as one of the leading golf destinations in the region.”

Announcing the company’s corporate partnership with the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic, Esber said that while the game of golf was only young in Oman, the event was attracting golfing enthusiasts from all around the world and inspiring young golfers to take up the sport. “We are also proud to be showcasing the opportunities that The Wave has to offer as the country’s leading integrated residential, tourism and business development.
“Our new masterplan, which will be launched later this year, includes an exciting new office park and more destination features such as a marina hotel and restaurant precinct and more premium beachfront and golf frontage properties. With The Wave only about 40 per cent complete, the best is yet to come,” he said.

Simon Duffield, General Manager of The Wave, added:  “We are proud to host the second edition of the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic here at Almouj Golf, The Wave Muscat. The feedback we received last year was truly outstanding, which has inspired us all to make this an even bigger and better event this year.
“The tournament is an important showcase for us here at Almouj Golf, the Sultanate of Oman and the value of corporates we have supporting, such as National Bank of Oman, Oman Air and The Wave Muscat. I believe we surprised many people last year all around the globe with the world-class quality of every aspect of the tournament. Prior to the tournament not many people were familiar with Oman but for them to see such a great event take place was a credit to all involved.

“Almouj Golf is the premium golf facility here in Oman, situated at The Wave on the edge of the Gulf of Oman. It’s a high-end residential community with a wide variety of components, such as a large retail outlet, hotels, Marina, parks, just to name a few.
“It was good to see the response from so many golfers and spectators last year, and it was gratifying to hear how impressed they all were with what we have achieved here. We wish everyone the best of luck and an enjoyable week, which could be a life-changing four days for the players at The Wave.”
