Volunteer registration opens for the tenth anniversary Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

Golf fans from across the globe have the chance to step inside the ropes this January and volunteer at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship’s 10th anniversary milestone event. With applications for volunteer places now open, Championship organisers are already reporting hundreds of applications from within the UAE and further afield, as golf fans hope to travel from far and wide for a chance to see the world’s best tee off in the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) capital.
Volunteers, who play an integral role in the Championship’s success, complete a variety of tasks during the four day event including operating the leader boards, walking scorers and measuring the length of players’ tee shots. The experience offers a unique insight into one of the region’s biggest and best-loved sporting events.

“Every year we welcome more than 450 volunteers to the Championship,” said Jean Iggo, Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship’s Volunteer Coordinator. “It’s a unique opportunity for fans to see the pros up-close and personal. Many volunteers even take time off work and travel to participate, flying in from the UK and as far afield as the U.S.
“This year we have seen applications flood in at a record-breaking rate, both locally and internationally, as it seems the whole world wants to be a part of the Championship’s 10th anniversary event.”
A significant portion of the volunteers at the upcoming Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship will be chosen from local schools in the UAE capital. Volunteers will get to know the game of golf and crucially gain invaluable experience working within a team – a highly transferable skill they can take back to both their schools and working lives. Takatof, the UAE’s social volunteering programme, will also assist in providing volunteers for the competition.
Volunteer registration is still open and anyone planning to be a part of this special event is invited to register online today via the Championship’s official website (www.abudhabigolfchampionship.com).

Organisers have lined up an all-star cast for the showpiece tournament, with the likes of world number one Rory McIlroy, world number two Henrik Stenson, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer and Matteo Manassero all looking for a slice of the US $2.7 million prize purse.
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship 2015 is presented by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and runs at Abu Dhabi Golf Club from 15-18 January.  Tickets and tailored packages are available via the event’s official website – www.abudhabigolfchampionship.com  at AED50 for a daily pass and AED150 for a four-day pass. Guests staying at any Abu Dhabi hotel over the Championship period enter free and all those who book packages will enjoy a complimentary clinic with a world top 30 player.
