Vice Captain Team Wins Gents Think Pink Golf

Royal Golf Club Vice Captain Edward Daly led his “Velvet and Thunder” team to a very narrow victory in the highly popular Gents Think Pink Bahrain Golf Tournament.

Daly’s team, comprising Royal Golf Club employees Martin Robinson, Nathan Williams and John Wilson narrowly beat off the team of Stan Kwik, Chris Igaya, Tim Backhouse and Kevin Ross on count back to take the title for the second consecutive year.

“This is the only time of year you would ever catch 44 men wearing pink golf shirts I think!” commented John Wilson, the Royal Golf Club’s Golf Events Key Account Manager. “We had a great laugh out on the Montgomerie championship course and to be crowned Champions again is great. However, the most important thing was raising as much money as possible for the Think Pink breast cancer awareness charity”.

“Once again we were determined to accommodate both male and female golfers of all abilities during our Think Pink week here at the Club,” said Phil Jones, the Club’s Director of Operations. “Last year’s series of tournaments raised nearly BD9000 in aid of raising breast cancer awareness in Bahrain and with the help of the local community we aim to cross the BD10, 000 mark this year for this vitally important cause.”

Experienced lady golfers are invited to compete in the 18-hole Think Pink Bahrain Ladies Tournament on the Royal Golf Club’s Montgomerie championship course this Wednesday morning. The Texas Scramble competition will tee off at 8.00am.

Meanwhile ladies with higher handicaps have the option to play a 9-hole scramble at 9.00am on Wednesday on the Wee Monty par 3 course. The two ladies tournaments will be rounded off with a lunch and prize-giving ceremony in the Club’s “Majlis” function room.

Sponsors of the 2010 Think Pink Bahrain Gents golf tournament included BMI, Mercure, Infiniti, SICO Investment Bank, Gulf Air and Couture Group. Optima provided golf shirts for all the competitors.
