Van the Man drives home his advantage in Volvo Grand Final
Nicholas Van Blerk came out on top in the thrilling climax to the Volvo Order of Merit held at the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club at the end of February.
After 7 Qualifying Events and with the Top 40 players in the Order of Merit qualifying to take their spot in the inaugural Volvo Grand Final, the Event was dramatic and gripping. A strong, gusting wind making scoring very tough added to the drama.
With double OOM Points on offer to all 40 Players- more than half of the field had a realistic chance of being crowned the overall Volvo Champion.
In the end, Van Blerk who had led for most of the 7 qualifying Events became the deserved Champion after returning a 2nd best Score of the Day 32 Points- a fantastic Score given the pressure he was under and the playing conditions.
Christ Thomson moved from 4th to 2nd overall after a steady 28 points saw him finish in the top 10 on the day.
Elizabeth Campbell jumped from 21st to 3rd overall after blitzing the field with an outstanding 36 points to gain 400 OOM Points and claim her crystal wear.
A delighted Van Blerk said “I am delighted to be the 1st Volvo Order of Merit Champion at the City Golf Club – it has been a fantastic Event and a joy for all us to play in. Volvo’s support and input into these Events has been hugely appreciated by us all – I hope that these Events continue next Season and that I can try and defend my title!”
Volvo’s National Sales Manager, Steve Grey, then gave us the news that all of us were hoping for- the Volvo Order of Merit and Grand Final will be back at the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club for Season 2!
