Urasch Crowned Junior Amateur Open at Dubai Creek

A strong field of 41 junior golfers assembled to battle it out on Friday 1st April over the testing Dubai Creek course for the 2011 Junior Amateur Open and EGF order of merit event.

Philip Urasch, fifteen year old junior member form Emirates Golf Club was crowned champion with a solid gross 74, +3 over par when Aditya Judge who also carded a gross 74 conceded the play off as was unable to remain at the club.  In unfortunate circumstances Judge had a flight to catch that could not be missed.

Urasch commented, “Thanks to all the players, my playing partners and the club for hosting the event without a sponsor.  I am sure Aditya would have been a worthy opponent in the play off and unfortunate to win in this way but I will not give it back.”

Ross Hopwood finished alone in third place with gross 75, +4 and a costly bogey at the penultimate hole prevented a place in the play off.  Boys division ‘A‘ winner was Ali Alami with a great net 71 to win by a clear three shots from Parth Goel who finished with net 74.  Division ‘B’ was blown away by the young and very talented Christopher Saad where his superb net 64 won by a clear six shots from Hrithik Khurana who carded a net 70.  Diya Chopra continued to show good from by claiming the girls division win with a lovely net 69 followed closely behind by Aashaka Desai in runners up spot with her net 70 by virtue of her back nine.

David Gray, Golf Services Manager commented, “It was exceptional to see an increase on players from last year’s event and to reach a total of 41 competitors a big thank you must go out to all the juniors for taking part and their parents for their support.  We have over 200 juniors attending weekly for our Academy’s Junior Development Programme and it will not be long until our junior competitions will see far more attendees and future junior champions coming through the ranks.”
