UAE National Team Prepares in Australia for the World Amateur Team Championship Eisenhower Trophy

On August 20, 2014 the UAE National Team traveled to Perth, Australia for a two week Training Camp at The Vines Resort & Country Club. Following the Training Camping the UAE National Team will compete in the World Amateur Team Championship – Eisenhower Trophy (WATC) in Karuizawa, Japan on September 3rd to 14th.

The WATC is the most prestigious Amateur Golf Event in the world. The top countries across the world send their best Amateur Golfers to compete. The format of the WATC is as follows – Each team has two or three players play four rounds, of 18 holes, of stroke play. In each round, the total of two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for that round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team’s score for the championship.

 The WATC has seen the top players in the world. Jack Nicklaus, Rory Mcllroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer, Rickie Fowler, Serigo Garcia, just to name a few.

While in Australia the UAE National Team which will consist of the following players, Sohail Marzouqi, Khalid Yousuf, Abdalla Musharakh, Hassan Musharakh, Rashid Hamood, Saeed Balooshi, Ahmed Skaik, will work on the follow aspects of the game.

The team will be working on technical skills in the areas of all aspects of the game to improve long game and short game play. Also, the team will discuss pre shot routines, course management, tournament preparation, fitness and mental strengthening.

The UAE National Team will play a number of different courses while in Perth, Australia. The Vines Resort & Country Club has two courses on the resort that the UAE National Team will primarily use, The Lakes Course and The Ellenbrook Course. Also while in Perth, the UAE National Team will travel to Joondalup Resort to play at the Meadow Springs Golf and Country Club.

The UAE National Team will also be playing an exhibition match against the Western Australian Team. This will be a great test for the National Team heading into the WATC where they will see the best competition that Amateur Golf has to offer. The UAE will look to continue this relationship with the Western Australian Team for future practice and exhibition matches.

The UAE Team will be accompanied by, Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi (Emirates Golf Federation Secretary General and UAE National Team Manager), Adel Zarouni (Emirates Golf Federation Vice Chairman and UAE National Team Official), Greg Holmes (UAE National Team Coach and PGA Professional) and Ross Bain (UAE National Team Assistant Coach and Asian & European Tour Professional).
