UAE National Golf Team play friendly against Qatar at The Track Meydan Golf

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Junior National Team met with the Qatar Junior National Team at The Track – Meydan to play a friendly.

With school being on holiday in Qatar the Qatar Golf Association took this opportunity to travel with five Junior National Team players to the UAE a 10-day training camp.

Accompanied by Qatar Golf Association Secretary General, Fahad Nasser Al Naimi and the Qatar National Team Coach the Qatar Junior Team used this holiday to sharpen the team’s fundamentals and prepare for future events. To end their trip, the Qatar Junior Team met up with the UAE Junior Team for a friendly match.

The format of this friendly was fun. Three different parings played three different formats, similar to the Ryder Cup, depending on the pairings skill level. The first group played a Match Play Better Ball, the second group played a Match Play Scramble, and the third group played a Signals Match Play. With many of the players still working on their course management, these formats were a fun and educational way for the juniors to enjoy the friendly match.

UAE National Team Performance Coach David Condon had this to say after the match, “the Qatar Team was training at Al Badia Golf Club so it was great for them to play somewhere different and adjust to some different playing conditions. This friendly was perfect for the UAE Team. Playing against Qatar gave the Coaches and Players a measure of their competition and gave us an opportunity to play in a competitive environment”.

The UAE 15 & Under Junior National Team will be back to playing competitive golf this March as the UAE is hosting the 2015 15 & Under GCC Golf Championship at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. Over five different countries are scheduled to play in this event where the UAE is looking to make an impact at on their home turf.
