UAE Junior Am at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club on the 28th

Leading junior golfers will take centre-stage when the UAE Junior Am, sponsored by PepsiCo, gets under way at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club on Saturday (May 28).

The season-ending event, organised by the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF), will see a galaxy of junior players, who have done well in this season’s Order of Merit events, captaining their respective sides in a Texas Scramble format, starting with a 1pm shotgun.

Spearheading the young army of golfer will be Daniel Hendry winner of the 2010-2011 Order of Merit Boy’s Gross title. Daniel will be joined by some of the leading UAE national stars who made their mark during the National Junior Programme events.

Amateurs and juniors will be joined by teaching professionals from different clubs in the UAE, but, for a change, the pros will be under the command of their pupils for the day.
The UAE Junior Am is a team event and each team will consist of five players – one junior, one professional and three amateurs. In all 25 teams will be in fray. The handicap allowance will be 10 per cent of the team total, including the decimal point.

"The tournament, which has grown in size and popularity over the years, provides us with an opportunity to acknowledge and reward all those juniors who have excelled this season and thank all our corporate patrons," said Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation.

“For the first time, our Emirati juniors, who are introduced to the game through the National Junior Programme, will also join the field. I am sure they will relish the experience of rubbing shoulders with leading amateurs and professionals.

“We are grateful to PepsiCo for its continued support to the event which provides a perfect finale to the season and provides us with an opportunity to honour the players for their achievements during the season.”

Nigel Benstead VP & Chief International Compliance Officer, AMEA & Europe of PepsiCo International, congratulated junior players for turning in some excellent performances during the season. "Each Order of Merit event produced a close fight for top honours, and if you look at the scores, they were pretty good to say the least. We would like to thank all the players and the clubs for making these events once again a great success.

“They have done us proud and their performance amply reflects on the rising standards of the junior players," he added.
