Yas Links Golf Club News

Tufail and Hajri win the Yas Links Club Championship

This event took place in some of the most adverse weather conditions seen at the Links to date. Taking a lead on Day one was last year’s defending champion Sana Tufail with a gross 74, followed by Elizabeth Campbell who had a Hole in one on Hole number 8. Sami Hajri finished day one with a gross 76 taking a one shot lead over Roman Hawczak and last year’s defending Champion Rob Alter.

Battling through the down pours on the start of day 2 saw the links course playing even tougher. As the afternoon of Day 2 closed crowds gathered on the events Lawn to witness Ladies Leader Sana Tufail sink a solid putt on the 18th green for an incredible back 9 gross of 31 (5 under par). Her gross total score across the 36 holes was 145. All was still in contention for the Men’s Club Champion going up the 18th fairway with Sami Hajri having a 2 shot lead over last year’s defending champion Rob Alter. With Sami having to recover out the long grass, Rob had a putt to enter the play off. He just missed it, resulting in Sami finishing with a one shot lead and winning the Title of Men’s Club Champion. His final score over the 2 days being 156.

Sharon Hall won second best gross over the 36 holes, third place going to Grace Groves. Third place in the Men’s category with just 2 shots behind the champion was Roman Hawczak. Congratulations also to our Nett Winners Uli Kessler and David Bonn. Taking second place in the net division was Elizabeth Campbell and Ronald Herman. Third Place Ladies Nett was Anita Love and Men’s was Alan Thomson.
