Tiger mania in Dubai as the Classic approaches

It's all about a certain Tiger at the moment

With the Omega Dubai Desert Classic just around the corner it is all about a certain Tiger at the moment here in the UAE.

Within the last week news has officially come out, firstly on the Tiger Woods Dubai being postponed, then a few days later the official word was the development was postponed indefinitely.
This means ominously that the project is over and seemed ultimately doomed as soon as the recession hit and arrived in Dubai with a bang. I arrived in Dubai just as a lot of the financial problems happened and the speed in which it done it’s damage was swift.
When you saw pictures of the few holes already completed, it genuinely looked like it was going to be a superb Golf Course, but was such a project ever sustainable? We will never know..

The draw was made last week for the ‘play a round with Tiger competition’ from Golf in Dubai. The lucky winner was Lieutenant Colonel Michael Rowells from the US Army, what a tremendous moment and prize for him.

I am going to be at the Emirates Golf Club tomorrow for the start of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, which should be another cracker. Cannot wait to see the man in action and the quality field battling it out on the Majlis. I will certainly be following Mr Woods on Thursday or Friday to watch him up close.
His pre event Press conference is this coming Wednesday which will be interesting and i am sure packed to the rafters with glaring media eyes.

Dare I say this years event could be another Classic? I remember the ending last year very clearly, the fading light with Jimenez and Westwood going head-to-head, nail biting.

Don’t forget to follow me at the Classic both here on the website or through the Facebook page and on twitter @uaegolfguide.
