The Pros’ are back in town and will the golfing bodies unite?

The return to the UAE shores of the Dubai World Championship

The return to the UAE shores of the Dubai World Championship is only a couple of weeks away. This segment kicks off the Professional golfing calendar and we see the worlds best back. Players have already been seen in and around some of the facilities practicing and I am sure more will be here in the next week taking a look at the course and acclimatizing.
Strong rumors have been going around including in the papers of the Dubai World Championship staying at Jumeirah for 3-6 years, if confirmed, this is great news for Golf in the UAE and particularly Dubai. That looks more promising for the homeowners, clubhouse and some of the other planned parts of the project, but I do not think the other 2 Golf Courses will ever still be built.
I think it would make complete sense to keep it there at its established venue. It was only a matter of finance I would have thought. Let’s hope they make a decision soon. In general, most of the course set up and entertainment for the fans is pretty good for a new event, well I thought so anyway.

We then have the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters returning to the Emirates Golf Club which is the next pro tournament in town, some of the big names have turned out for this event again it seems.

Golf in the UAE has taken another milestone last week with the official announcement of a rival body in Golf that may either unite Emirates Golf further or split the Golfing ranks. Hopefully, it is the former as sometimes too many cooks can spoil the broth so to speak. We do not need any more camps in UAE Golf, unity is the key to drive the game forward.

Golf in Dubai may be feeling the heat with the announcement that Tiger will be joining the HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championship next year. Tigers contract ended with Golf in Dubai and maybe the few extra Dirhams may have helped seal the deal and it will be interesting to see if the visitor numbers increase because of this and the Dubai Golfers get on the highway and drive down to the event.

All in all a very newsworthy few weeks in the ever-changing world of UAE Golf.

Enjoy your Golf wherever you are – Paul
