The President’s Cup, premier golf event for Emirati golfers returns to Saadiyat Beach golf club this weekend

The UAE Nationals’ Golf Championship was retitled to The President’s Cup from year 2013 in honour of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the great leader and President of the UAE.

The 36-hole strokeplay tournament, open only to Emirati golfers, is being supported by HSBC for the second consecutive year. Presently 57 golfers have signed up for the event including 2013 champion, Khalid Yousuf. Khalid will however face a tough competition to defend his title, not just from fellow team members Abdulla Al Musharrekh, Sohail Al Marzouqi, Rashid Hamood, Saif Thabit, but also from ever improving junior team including Abdulla Al Qubaisi, Ahmed Al Budoor and Ahmed Skaik.

Chairman of Emirates Golf Federation, H.E. Shaikh Fahim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi and Board members, Adel Zarouni, Khalid Mubarak, Rashid Al Jarwan, Abdulfattah Sharaf, Darwish Al Qubaisi and Khalfan Al Kaabi are taking a break from their busy work schedule to support this prestigious event on and off course.

Alongside the main event, the National Development squad will compete in a 9 hole tournament to determine the Junior National Champion. Another interesting activity on Saturday, 25th will be the NJPL competition conducted on a shortened course with 20 budding Emirati juniors ambitiously displaying their golfing skills.

EGF Secretary General Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi commented: “The Presidents Cup is the flagship Emirati event of Emirates Golf Federation and we are greatly honoured and delighted to receive the blessings of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. With the generous support of our sponsor, HSBC, we are sure to make the event a great golfing experience for all participants.”
