The ladies season at Emirates Golf Club teed off this week with the annual drive in from new Lady Captain Caroline Jones

The 88 ladies competed in a Texas Scramble but not before Caroline officially opened her campaign as Lady Captain. She coped with the pressure admirably on the first tee of the Majlis course and dispatched her tee shot 160 yards down the fairway. Vera Woolnough guessed the distance correctly and received the first official prize of the day.

The quartet of Viv Caley, Thea Hendrickx, Ruth Hatton and Patt Aiamchom triumphed with a superb score of 62.3 that included gross birdies on the 4th, 11th, 16th and 17th holes. The ladies Vice Captain, Glynis Hendry, marshalled her team of Stephanie Wilson, Barbara Head and Carolyn Thompson admirably to claim runners-up position on 63.4. Lyn Born, Barb McBean, Karin Gesterkamp and Sita Mahabier clinched third with a tally of 64.1

Past captains dominated the novelty hole prizes with Jenny Aryes and Margaret Bain going home with the nearest the pin prizes and Jacqui Barry securing the long drive award on the 8th hole. Judy Ashcroft won the long drive on hole 3.
