The Indian Business Council takes the lead in Round one of the 2012 Ambassadors Cup Inter-Business Council Team Golf Event at Dubai Creek

Dubai Golf and the Australian Business Council, Dubai, in collaboration with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and title sponsors du, staged the first round of ‘The 2012 Ambassadors Cup’, an Inter-Business Council team golf event at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club’s championship course.

Seven of Dubai’s business councils entered a team of 16 players where the best 10 individual stableford scores would count towards the overall team score. The competition also features a local UAE team sponsored by the Dubai Chamber.

With the players tackling hot and windy conditions, the Indian Business Council team once again showed their dominance of the event as they claimed round one with a point’s total of 329 from their best ten stableford scores.  This was following their victory in the inaugural 2011 competition.

The German Business Council finished in second place in round one with a total of 302 points – a vast improvement on their tied 6th place finish in the inaugural event last year.  In third place was the Irish Business Council just 1 point behind, with a total of 301 points.

The South African Business Council finished in fourth place with 295 points, Dubai Chamber came in fifth with 288 points, the British Business Council was in sixth place with 284 points and the Australian Business Council remain seated in seventh place with 276 points.

Mustafa Al Hashimi, Club Manager of Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club commented, “It is fantastic to welcome the first round of the second staging of The Ambassador’s Cup to Dubai Creek.  Last year’s event was extremely successful and the tournament utilizes the game of golf to bring together a diverse group of business people along with diplomatic representatives, to create a unique cultural and business exchange platform. We are happy to say that round one of this year’s event was bigger than the last and are confident that this event will facilitate strong and mutually beneficial relationships.”

Raymi van der Spek, Chairman of Australian Business Council, Dubai commented: “The key concept behind the Ambassadors Cup was to combine sport, diplomacy and business networking into a single event. We also felt that to be truly successful the event would need to create an opportunity for expatriate based business groups to mix with Emirati businessmen.  With the support of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce this concept has become a reality.  For me personally, watching four businessmen of different nationalities standing at a tee box, competing, networking and creating business opportunities is a truly rewarding and enriching experience. Naturally I was disappointed to see the Australian team come in at the bottom of the table, but knowing Australians and sport I am confident of a strong comeback for the second round in October!”

The second round will take place at the Emirates Golf Club’s award winning ‘Majlis Course’ on October 11th, 2012.  The team with the best aggregate team stableford score over the two rounds will be named the champion.

The event is also kindly supported by Pierlite, Gulf Finance, Crown Relocations, Mercedes-Benz, Acuma Wealth Management and IP Global and Crystal Gallery.
