Teenager Bakal wins Dubai Creek Ladies Amateur Open

The golf course and weather conditions were perfect for the field of nearly fifty competitors from various parts of the UAE and also a few international visitors. Montgomerie member Anastasia Bakal came out on top after a superb six over-par 77 which included late birdies on the 13th and 16th holes.  After being presented with the trophy, teenager Bakal commented; “I am delighted to have won such a prestigious EGF order-of-merit title.  I would like to thank Dubai Creek for putting on such a great event and all of the players who took part.  In addition, thanks to my playing partners today for all of their support that helped me secure the win.”

Bakal’s performance was enough to see off the competition from the 2011 and 2012 champion, teenage sensation Sana Tufail.  Tufail took the runner-up spot as she finished two shots back on 79.

In the Silver Division it was Dubai Creek member Yuko Tsukiori who came out on top after her fantastic net 67.  Another Dubai Creek member Serifa D’souza finished with a level par net 71 to take runner-up spot in the same division.  D’Souza’s gross 79 also meant she tied for 2nd place in the overall event, but the lost out on the count-back to Tufail.

H.H Choi, another Dubai Creek member was also in the winner’s circle as she fired a 1-under par net 70 to take top honours in the Bronze Division. Just one shot behind Choi was Emirates Golf Club member Gillian Black who finished runner-up with her solid effort of net 71.

There were a host of on course competitions for the ladies as well.  Taking the first of these was defending champion, Sana Tufail for her superb tee shot on the par-5 4th which earned her the longest drive prize.  Nasha Sarkari displayed some great accuracy to take the nearest the pin prize on the challenging par-3 8th, whilst Naema Maya followed suit on the 14th.  Chris Round also showed great accuracy with her tee shot down the testing par-4 17th to take the prize for the straightest drive.

After conducting the prize giving Dubai Creek’s Head Golf Professional, Stephen Hubner commented; “It really has been a wonderful day of golf and we are delighted to welcome so many players from around the UAE and some from abroad.  Congratulations to Anastasia on a great performance and of course our thanks go to Pro Sports International for their kind sponsorship of the giveaways and excellent prize table.”
