Team Asia triumph again to win the NMT battle of the continents for the 2nd year running

Team Asia Captained by Vivian Verma retained their title as the champion continent in the 2nd edition of the NMT Battle of the Continents Grand Final played at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club on Friday 17th January.

After a very tight start to the final where the lead changed hands between Asia, Europe and Africa/Middle East on a number of occasions it was the Asians who capitalized on last years’ experience and pushed ahead opening up a 3 point lead as all groups had played 9 holes. Sunny Ramadas playing for Team Asia in one of the Gross matches started the push as he slam dunked his second shot on the extremely difficult Par 4 final hole at Sharjah for an eagle 2, thus inspiring his other team members to begin their assault to the top of the leaderboard.

Young superstar Zubair bin Firdaus after a slow start fired into life on the back 9 clawing back points from his fellow competitors and picking up 4 vital winning points which put Team Asia in an almost unpassable lead. The win was finally settled as Ikhlas Rahaman representing Asia holed a 3 foot putt on the final hole which was met by rapturous applause from his team mates.
The second place position was extremely tight between the three other continents with only 1 point separating them all; it was the European Team Captained by Englishman Gary Langthorne who just shone through by one point with a team total of 21.

With both the African & Middle East & American/Australasian continents tying on 20 points the position placement was settled by the three gross players, and due a stronger performance the 3rd place spot went to Africa & Middle East, captained by Leroy Durward.
Unfortunately the American/Australasian continent couldn’t improve on their last place finish in the 2013 inaugural edition and really suffered in the three gross matches returning in last place in all three. The only highlight being 4 points from Team Captain Dave Loftus leading the way and Gurbax Singh playing in the first net match.

With the NMT Battle of the Continents now having been played for the second successive year the tournament has continued to grow from strength to strength, with a huge thanks going to NMT and their representatives Vivian Verma & Praveen Sharma for the overwhelming sponsorship and personal input into the event. NMT were also delighted to confirm their renewed sponsorship of the event into its third year and announced exciting plans to continue to improve the competition.
