Summer a time for practice reflection and cheap UAE Golf

Although many of the golf courses are winding down for the summer in terms of members tournaments

Well that’s it guys, another season passes us by and they just seem to get faster and faster. Even though I was previously used to the British season moving quickly, the longer and probably more demanding UAE one picks up the same pace if not faster!
Although many of the golf courses are winding down for the summer in terms of members tournaments there is still plenty going on. The ever-increasing competition from golf courses within the UAE mean there are some great deals to be had on summer memberships, incentive plans (such as the Yas Links Summer Passport!) and off-peak golf rates.

It is also a great time for beginners to start the game. Golf courses are a little quieter and there isn’t that ‘pressure’ from the group behind.  As long as we are sensible about playing in the heat, take on board plenty of water and electrolytes (Gatorade, Pocari Sweat etc.) we can still enjoy the game even if it does mean we need to change the shirt before heading to the bar afterward.
The end of the season is also a great time to review your own golfing year. Setting goals, ambitions, and targets is always great for keeping your golf concentrated and to ensure constant improvement. Take a look at your scoring record on the EGF website. When you were playing your best golf of the year, what were you doing? The answer may be taking lessons, practicing that short game a little more or even leaving the office early once a week.

Most of our practice ranges in the UAE are also floodlit. Try to make some time to have a practice, maybe take a few lessons and get yourself ready so you can hit the ground running come September/October. We also have the upcoming Holy Month of Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak to our UAE Nationals of course, but for most expats, this means shorter working hours- did I hear someone say a quick nine after work….!

So whether it’s watching the European Football Championships, enjoying the Olympics or staying in touch through the television with the golfing world and its Major Championships have a great summer. Rest, practice and start planning for season’s handicap reduction blitz!

PS. We haven’t even started to think about the Ryder Cup!!
All the best from the Links,

Craeg Deery
