Sumit Rathor rises to the challenge

A large field of golfers faced warm temperatures and strong winds which proved a challenge to all players

Yesterday saw the Genesis Medal take place at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. A large field of golfers faced warm temperatures and strong winds which proved a challenge to all players but not Sumit Rathor.

Winning this month’s Genesis Medal was last year’s Net Order of Merit winner Sumit Rathor after his excellent score of 65 net (-6). This was an exceptional round of golf from Rathor who finished with a gross 80! It was a tale of two halves with Rathor making the turn in plus seven, but a solid back nine of two over meant he won the medal by one stroke.

In the Men’s Division A the scoring was tight with the winners being separated by only a few strokes. The winner of this division was Ishwar Jodha after his 67 net (-4). The runner up was new member Liam Wealleans whose 69 (-2) won on a better back nine. In Division B the winner was Max Quack after his score of 66 (-5) beat AR Meeran by one stroke. The Best Gross prize was won by Adam Savage after his score of 67 (-4) beat Mike McGinley by two strokes. Savage was four under through his first six holes and despite a double bogey on his card, he managed to birdie two more holes to finish at -4!

After the prize presentation, Dubai Creek’s Golf Services Manager, Michael Major commented; “Congratulations to all the winners, it was great to see so many of you playing even in these tough conditions! A huge thank you to Genesis as always for sponsoring this year’s medal.”
