Steve’s Smashing Summer Start in the RAK Summer Open at Al Hamra
Steve Rayment had the perfect start of his Summer Season by claiming victory in the RAK Summer Open Weekend, the first event of the Summer Fixtures, with a comfortable 4 point winning margin.
Again this event was an annual double header event held at the two Northern Emirate courses of Tower Links and Al Hamra. Day one took place on Friday 7th June in a 2pm shotgun at Tower Links, while the following day at Al Hamra would see competitors tee off in an earlier 8am shotgun. Steve got off to a slightly rocky start to his campaign scoring 33 points round Tower Links leaving himself in 6th place, 5 points behind the leaders Terri and Brian Stewart. Leaving himself a lot of work, Steve then went on to produce the best day two score and his best score for sometime of 40 points. This would see him finish with the competition winning total of 73 points, 4 points ahead of his nearest competitors, David Thomas and Mathew Ambat. Matthew would go on to pick up the runner-up prize after a card play-off as he second round of 34 points bettered that of David’s 32.
In the ladies division Rabab Al Haj followed up her great score of 37 points on day one with 31 points around Al Hamra to pick up the top prize, finishing 2 points ahead of her nearest competitors. Again, like the men’s division, the runner-up prize winner would need to be separated by a card play-off between Pat Mottershead and Terri Stewart as both players finished with totals of 66 points. Unfortunately for Terri, Pat managed a 3 point better second round score of 31 points to claim the last podium spot.
Brian Stewart had a consolation prize of picking up the best day one score while Sergio De Souza picked up the same prize for day two. The 4 Special Event prizes were picked up by Malcolm Tennant and Mohammed Omar Safi for their closest the pin efforts on day 1 while Tony Cashman and Serifa De Souza had the nearest the pins on day 2. The next 2 day event in the Summer Fixtures will be the RAK Ramadan Open taking place on 5th and 6th July.
