Sizzling Syed Redzal captures trophy on Jumeirah Earth

The Second edition of Filipino Golfers in the Middle East’ (FIGME) Philippine Independence Day Golf Invitational kicked off in windy & sticky conditions with the participation of 80 golfers held in Earth Course of Jumeirah Golf Estates.

The weather condition did not deter the enthusiasm of FIGME golfers led by their Chairman Ramon Navea and Vice Chairman Chito Albay along with their invited guests with support emanating from Western Union and Cathay Pacific as Platinum and Gold Sponsors respectively.

His Excellency, Benito Valeriano, Philippine Consul General (Dubai) was the Guest of Honor and enjoyed the day with his fellow Consul Generals H.E. Syed Nasrin (Malaysia), H.E. Dileep Nair (Singapore) & H.E. Pasan Teparak (Thailand).

A single point was the deciding factor to segregate the over-all Champion & it proved a tight battle between Syed Redzal (12) & Richard Mylrea (5), with the former having 33 points & latter gaining 32 points playing off ¾ HCP in Stable ford Format. Sizzling Syed snatched the Western Union sponsored Crystal Trophy and Cathay Pacific’s round trip ticket, Dubai – Hong Kong – Manila.

Platinum Division (0 to 13) saw a unanimous winner from Richard Mylrea (32 points) followed by Arnel Pabitu (29 pts.), Eric Matabang and Nestor Labis garnering 27 & 26 points.

Zulkifli Zakaria blasted his opponents in the Gold Division ( 14 to 21) with 32 points. From a distance is FIGME member and lady Italian golfer Tania Gelassini (29 points) followed by Suhaimi Shamsudin & FIGME’s Garreth Estment  in 4th place.

Silver Division (22 to 36) saw a tight battle between Janine Hadley & Thaddeus Choo wherein the former winning through a better back nine. Similarly, Joy Lirio was handed the 3rd place winning over a better back six over Rogel Rabino.

Prizes were raffled off and the grand prize of a return ticket from Dubai – Hong Kong – Manila was won by Tony Longalong & R9 Taylor Made Driver snatched by Rogel Rabino. Branded Golf bags, wedges & golf balls were also given to lucky names drawn out of the hat.

Highlight of the event was the efforts of all golfers to Contribute Back to Society where – in Dhs. 2,400.00 was raised to assist needy children in Philippines.
