‘Simple’ philosophy set to benefit golfers in Abu Dhabi as Golf Institute by Troon Golf appoints Josh Longney

Experienced international instructor Josh Longney will share the extensive knowledge gained from the world’s leading golf schools in his new role at The Abu Dhabi Golf Institute by Troon Golf. The New Zealander is the newest recruit to join The Golf Institute at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and he says he is looking forward to helping golfers of all abilities to take their game to the next level.

“I’m proud to be joining such a respected and well established team of professionals here in Abu Dhabi and the chance to bring my experience to benefit golfers in this exciting part of the world was very appealing,” said Longney.

“I can’t wait to get to know people and work closely with them on their game. I’m hopeful I can add some real value and can bring new ideas that will work to develop people’s love of golf even further.”

Longney joins The Golf Institute after being based in Miami, Florida, at The Jim McLean School of Golf, which is regarded as the number one golf school in America. He was a teaching professional overseeing private tuition and golf schools and spent countless hours assisting Jim McLean, one of the leading instructors in the United States, and Bobby Cole, a PGA Tour Winner.

A qualified PGA Professional himself, Longney completed his training at the prestigious New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney, Australia. He attended the University of Auckland in 2003 where he obtained a Bachelors of Science, majoring in Exercise Science and Biomechanics.

Longney says his teaching philosophy is simple.

“For me, it’s about creating an environment for students where they can have fun and learn,” he says. The student’s goals are my number one priority.”

Understanding that each person’s swing is unique and different, he employs an adaptable, systematic approach to instruction that works backwards from ball flight and impact to see where a student can improve.

“It’s all about consistent, repeatable impact and solid ball striking,” he says. A ‘fundamental’ for me goes far beyond the grip, stance and posture. I believe they are the foundation of the swing.”

Longney says he is not in the business of making good looking swings, but effective swings.

“My goal is to make students better,” he added.

Longney also spent time working at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. His education and qualifications include: Jim McLean Certified Instructor; Golf BioDynamics 3D Certified Specialist; Titleist TPI Level 2 Golf Professional; ‘AA’ Member of the Australian PGA;
Bachelors of Science – Exercise Science and Biomechanics (Auckland University); and a Diploma in Sport Coaching.
