Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club Orient Travel Thai Airways Monthly Stableford

Glenn Norrie topped the pile in the first of the summers Orient Travel – Thai Airways Monthly Stablefords which have now largely thanks to the conditions changed from its usual strokeplay format in a stableford. In a day where scoring was extremely tough, thanks largely to the heat and the thickness of the rough, Norrie finished in pole position with a level score of 36 points, something he admitted didn’t think would be enough for that winning prize.

Finishing a further 3 points adrift was regular winner Vivien Verma, a great back nine of 19 points made up for a disappointing front 9 of only 14, with four actual gross pars the highlight over the last 9 holes. Third spot was a close affair with two golfers tying level, but as virtue of a scorecard countback it was Abdul Hakeem who claimed the prize ahead of new member Phil Cornish.

The best gross prize for the day went to the extremely steady South African Roy Holmes who finished with 25 gross stableford points to see off the lowest handicapper on the day George Liu.

Our thanks once again are extended to Orient Travel – Thai Airways who provided all the commemorative plaques plus the put on a superb dinner for the golfers post round.
