Scotlands Gallacher wins Mercedes Benz for his hole in one at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic

Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher was presented with a gleaming Mercedes-Benz S-Class car after he scored a hole-in-one on the challenging par-3, 15th hole in the first round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club on Thursday.

The key to the car was presented to Gallacher by Frank Bernthaler, Sales and Marketing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars at Daimler Middle East & Levant, and Karl-Johan Sandesjo, general manager of Gargash Entreprises, in the presence of Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi.

The 37-year-old Scot used a seven iron to ace the hole, measuring 185 yards from the tee, thus becoming only the third golfer in the history of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic to achieve the feat on the 15th after Sweden’s Peter Hedblom (1996) and Japan’s Nobuhito Sato 2005.

Incidentally, it was Gallacher’s second hole in one on the Majlis course, having recorded the similar feat on the fourth hole in the 2005 edition of the $2.5 million European Tour event, promoted and organised by golf in DUBAi.

“A hole-in-one is always a result of talent and luck, but it certainly adds to the excitement of a tournament,” said Frank Bernthaler, Sales and Marketing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars at Daimler Middle East & Levant.

“Being the official car sponsor of the event, we are delighted to present a Mercedes-Benz
S-Class for Stephen for accomplishing the feat on the 15th,” he added.

The nephew of former European The nephew of the Ryder Cup Captain Bernard Gallacher, Gallacher was born on November 1, 1974 in Dechmont.

A member of the victorious Walker Cup side in 1995, Gallacher boasts two professional wins, including one on the European Tour ( the 2004Dunhill Links Championship) since turning professional in 1996.
