As the wind howled around the Address Montomerie course last Saturday, the husband and wife team of Alan and Sam Salem finally made it to the final of the Daman Investments International Pairs UAE Final by racking up an incredible score of 41 Stableford points. The course at the Address Montgomerie Dubai was in exceptional condition for the time of year – a testimony to the skills of the greenkeeping staff and to Troon Golf’s excellent management.
Despite the windy conditions scoring was high, as demonstrated by Alan and Sam’s winning score, a full three points ahead of another ‘family’ pairing of Akram and Ahmad Skaik who took the runners-up spot of 41ts after a back-9 countback from John Norton and Masood Sobati.
For the fifteenth time this season the Virgin Atlantic Airways hole-in-one prize of tickets to New York went unclaimed, but the nearest-the-pin prize on the 13th hole was won by Joon Eun. Charlie Simpson saved his best shot for the last hole as he took the OnCourse Golf nearest-the-pin-in-two prize at the final hole.
With just three qualifiers to go – at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on April 24th, Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club on May 8, and the EGF Qualifier at Emirates Golf Club on May14, the field for the 29th May UAE Final is now taking shape.
Alan and Sam proved popular winners, as did title sponsor Daman Investments’ gifts and TaylorMade’s prizes. Steve Rutter of tournament organiser OnCourse Golf gave deserved praise to the participants and to the club for its excellent set up and organisation.
The Daman Investments International Pairs is also supported by AGMC/BMW, Standard Chartered Bank, Mediclinic, Visa, TaylorMade and Virgin Atlantic Airways. The next Daman Investments International Pairs qualifier will take place at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on Friday April 24th.
