Runaway Victory in Sponsors’ Event at the International Pairs UAE National Final

While pairs from 16 clubs around the UAE were competing for a dream trip to the International Pairs World Final in the second UAE National Final, there was a separate event held for sponsors and guests, also on the beautiful Yas Links course.

Playing the same 2-ball better-ball format as the serious contenders, representatives from Tech Access, Cadillac, Emirates Healthcare Ltd, Emirates Golf Federation, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi, Rivoli Group, Acuma and International Pairs UAE vied for honours in this social event.

Competition was friendly with abundant examples of good sportsmanship on display as the focus was on the main event. There were prizes up for grabs however and laying claim to first place was the pairing of Klaas Boon and Ksenia Grayling. The experienced Boon laid the foundations of a serious better-ball score of 40 points although Ksenia’s steady play was crucial throughout the round. The duo recorded eight net birdies to dominate proceedings, leaving title sponsor, Tech Access representatives Tony Lewis and Ross Bain in their wake. Lewis & Bain pieced together a respectable 37 points, all the more remarkable for the fact that Bain, who plies his trade professional Asian PGA Tour, played from a handicap of +5.

Tom Luig and Carl Palmlund, who were representing Rivoli Group, also scored 37 points but had to settle for third place after a countback.  Nearest-the-Pin prizes were on offer on offer on holes 4 and 13 where Ray Watkins (Cansco) and Andy Wick (TechAccess) were rewarded for their excellent tee-shots.
