Ronan makes International Pairs UAE History at Yas Links Golf Club
After 20 Qualifiers since its inception, Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac saw its first junior winning their way through to the National Final as talented 16-year old Ronan Hall played scintillating golf to book a place in 2011-12 Final along with his Father, Walter.
The Yas Links Qualifier was played on Friday 25th November over the award-winnning Kyle Phillips layout, which, as usual, was presented in immaculate condition.
Ronan, who plays off an impressive handicap of 5 was only 4-over par through 16 holes thanks to a steady card and birdies on the short 13th as well as the testing 16th hole and although he faltered slightly with the end in sight, his father’s experience and steady finish saw them home with a huge 44-point total. On such a tough course, 44 points would ordinarily ensure a comfortable win but David Barwell and Andrew Morris almost ruined the Halls’ day when they scored 24 points on the front-9 and had 27 in the bag after the 10th, when victory loomed large. Unfortunately, a slight blip on the 11th rocked the ship and although they also finished with 44 points, just lost on the back-9 countback.
Completing the prize line-up was the strong looking team of Keith Collins and Steve Gibson who ended the day with 43 points but were left to rue a no-return on the relatively easy par-5 11th hole. Gibson revived their challenge with a superb birdie, net eagle on the unpredictable 14th but in the end, it was not to be.
Nearest-the-pin prizes were up for grabs on the two shortest holes on the course, 8 and 13 where Tim Bullock and Alex Downie collected the honours.
Walter & Ronan Hall join representatives from Arabian Ranches Golf Club, Abu Dhabi City Golf Club and the Els Club who have already qualified for the 2011-12 National Final. The next Qualifying event of the 2011-12 Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac, will take place on Saturday 26th November at Emirates Golf Club.
