Ras Al Khaimah Golf goes Black and White

Golfers from all over the Emirates descended into Ras Al Khaimah over the weekend of the 15th & 16th of February to test their skills over the Northern Emirates two premier golfing facilities, Al Hamra Golf Resort & Tower Links Golf Club. Day 1 was played over the 7,400 yard par 72, Championship layout of Al Hamra where the men played medal format from the black tees and the Ladies from the white tees. The weather on Day 1 was blustery to say the least and the windswept links of Al Hamra proved quite a test to those who had very little experience on the layout.

Al Hamra Club Member, Jake Maki – Petaja was leading the men’s division at close of play on day 1 after a solid score of 79, closely followed by a trifecta of players who posted scores of 84. In the Ladies division, it was the young Julia Al Hamoud who was the clear leader with a superb 84 gross and certain for the title.

Day 2 came and so did the calmer conditions, but the smaller, firmer, and more undulating greens of Tower Links were always going to prove a challenge to the field, despite being some 200 yards shorter than Al Hamra.
With some 90% of the field scoring higher over Tower Links, the first round leaders in both divisions had too large a lead and were never really threatened. Jake shot an 81 gross to be crowned the Men’s Black Tee Champion for 2013 by a comfortable margin of 13 strokes, while Julia posted a score of 89 to be crowned the White Tee Champion for 2013.
