Rabab’s Sizzling Weekend in RAK at Al Hamra Golf Club
Rabab Al Haj claimed victory in the RAK Summer Sizzler with a one point winning margin from her nearest competitor.
The new addition to the Summer Fixtures saw the clubs of Al Hamra and Tower Links team up to host a mid-summer 36 hole individual stableford which saw competitors battling both the course and the blistering heat. Rabab got off to a solid start to her campaign by posting a score of 34 points on Day 1 which took place on Friday afternoon at Tower Links. This score put her in second place and only one point behind Day 1 leader and best day score winner Tony Johnson who carded 35 points round the tough mangrove surrounded track. With six other players all within 3 points of the leader it was going to be an exciting battle come Day 2.
Day 2 began early morning on the Saturday around the lush Al Hamra course which saw competitors teeing off in an 8am shotgun start. Scoring appeared to be slightly higher on Day 2 with Tony Beaumont picking up the best day score for his solid round of 37 points, one point better than his two nearest rivals Mohammed Darwish and Derek Fisher on 36. Rabab followed her 34 points with 33 points for her winning total of 67 points and first podium place in the RAK Summer Sizzler. This score saw her finish one point ahead of the young Mikhail Pinto who finished on 66 points after two identical rounds of 33.
A further one point back and picking up the last podium position was Mohammed Darwish who carded rounds of 29 and 36 for a total of 65 points. Mohammed also had to beat Derek Fisher in a back nine card play-off as he also carded a competition total of 65 points.
The special events on Day 1 were picked up by Jimmy Miller and Mikhail Pinto for their nearest the pin efforts on holes 4 and 16 while Mark Reagan and Mikhail Pinto again picked up the Day 2 nearest the pins on holes 4 and 11 respectively.
