Professionals Take Control in 1st day of the Dubai Golf Trophy

The Professional team captained by Stephen Hubner (Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club) takes a commanding lead into the final day’s play of the Dubai Golf Trophy.
Following the opening days play over the Faldo course the professional team leads the amateurs by 12.5 to 3.5 points.
The morning foursome matches was a one sided affair with the professional team winning the series 7.5 to 0.5. Dong Lee and Liam Cregan achieved a 4&3 victory over John Fellingham and Paul King. The other standout performance for the professional team was a 3&2 victory by Malcolm Young and Ross McArthur over Vikram Judge and Rakesh Shah. Steve Kelly and Craig Forest registered a half point for the amateurs over Fraser McLaughlan and Tom Buchanan. The amateur team captain, Dino Varkey, fought hard in the morning foursomes alongside Alex Charawani but narrowly lost by one hole to Stuart Fee and Phil Waine, this was one of 3 matches going the way of the professionals by a one hole margin.

The afternoon four ball series was a tighter affair with the professionals taking 5 of the 8 points on offer. Steve Kelly and Craig Forrest followed their halved match in the morning with a 3&2 win over Ryan Smith and Joe Marshal.

In its thirteenth year the Dubai Golf Trophy is one of the most hotly anticipated local golfing events of the season. Over two days of intense competition the 16 leading UAE based PGA Professionals and the leading 16 Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Amateur golfers go head to head in a Ryder Cup style showdown in a bid to be crowned champions.

The Professionals, having taken home the past four trophies, will go into the final round in confident mood plus a nine point advantage. On Sunday 30th September the 16 singles matches will take place on the stunning championship course at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.
