Phillips cup results from Yas Links Golf Club

In name of Kyle Phillips the golf course designer of Yas Links, the golf club held the Phillips Cup last weekend, the format of the event being based on the Ryder Cup. 36 members were split into two opposing teams; America and Asia verses The Rest of The World. Appointed Captain of the American and Asian Team was Emanuel Ostijic and Captain for The Rest of the World was Joe Howell. After prep talk from the Captains, in the morning of Friday 11th the two teams battled it out playing Foursomes Matchplay. After re-fuelling at lunch and the links breeze setting in, temperatures in the afternoon felt a little more bearable as the two teams headed back out  to play Pairs Betterball Matchplay. As the final match concluded The American and Asian team took an early lead at the end of Day 1 at  11 ½ games – 6 ½ games.

The format for Day 2 was Singles Match play, the draw having been decided by the Team Captains the previous night. Spirit from both teams was incredibly high with team colours being worn and home country flags flying from golf carts. As matches concluded the Rest of the World were on for an almighty come back. With one group still left out on the battle field America and Asia had won 7 ½ matches to 11 ½. Thus, all was still to play for as the combined total from Day 1 stood at American and Asia: 19 games to the Rest of the world at 18 games. As the final golf cart pulled into staging Michael Revell representing America and Asia triumphed a victory over his opponent dismissing the need for a play off. The final score: America and Asia 20 to Rest of the World 18.

A glorious win for the American and Asian Team. A very fun and competitive weekend indeed. Thank you to all the members who participated and many congratulations to the winning team.
