Pascal Lays the Winning Firestone at Jumeirah Golf Estates

The Firestone Classic sponsored by Aphrodite Hills saw each competitor calculate their number of shots by adding the Fire courses Par (72) to their golfing course handicap.

Once the player had hit their last shot they placed their Firestone marker where the ball came to rest. If the player had shots left after completing the 18th hole they continued from the 1st tee again until all their shots ran out. The player who got the furthest around the course was crowned the winner.

There were numerous outstanding performances on the course with the first Firestone being laid as late as the 16th hole, which on its own demonstrated the level of golf on display. Between the middle of the 17th fairway and green competitors were starting to drop in numbers as the Firestones started to appear thick and fast. On completion of the 18th hole four golfers were still standing – Graham Pascal, Katrin Wilke, Nick Lloyd and Don Whyte. Finishing in 4th Place was Nick Lloyd 83 yards from the 19th hole pin, with Don Whyte claiming third as his last shot finished in the cup of the 19th hole. Katrin Wilke’s last shot finished 35 yards from the 20th hole’s pin, leaving Graham Pascal to claim first place as his ball came to rest 27 feet from the 20th hole’s pin.
