Yas Links Golf Club News

Over 40 ladies came from across the Emirates to compete to be crowned Yas Links Ladies Open Champion

Conditions over the two days were extremely fair, as the stiff breeze which comes from the gulf remained calm during the event.

Two ladies in particular took advantage of the conditions on day one. Lindsay Brown shot a magnificent 71, 1 under par. Closely followed by 14 year old Yas Links Members Sana Tufail with a fantastic level par round of 72 which included 18 pars. This certainly set up for an exciting final round.

After 27 holes both players found themselves at -1 for the tournament leading to an exciting finish. Lindsay Brown took a one shot lead into 17, where both Tufail and Brown hit the green, surprisingly both players 3 putted, and Brown took her 1 shot lead into the final hole.

Browns tee shot found the fairway bunker on 18, whilst Tufail had caught a lucky break stopping inches away from the water hazard and thick rough. Both players laid up for their next shot leaving them mid irons shots into the green for their approach. Tufail went first and landed the ball on the green about 40 feet away from the flag. Brown tried to add pressure but instead pulled her iron shot into the left greenside bunker, she then played a great bunker shot to 10 feet from the flag As Tufail tried to respond she hit the putt 8 feet past the hole. Both Brown and Tufail missed their next putts leaving Lindsay Brown with a 2 foot putt for the Win which she holed.

Tom Rourke Golf Operations Manager said “It was fantastic to see such a strong field at our second Ladies Open, we feel the event has grown from last year, and will continue to grow strongly over the coming years. We would like to thank all our sponsors from the day ESPA, Prosports, Crowne Plaza and Cirpriani Restaurant”
