October Carpetland Monthly Open results from the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club

The October Carpetland Monthly Open was played today at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.  Sixty five players from all over the UAE battled it out on the beautiful creek-side course in attempt to finish in the top 4 and qualify for the Grand Final at the end of the season.

As always in the Carpetland Open it was a Pairs competition with the format on this occasion being Better Ball Stableford.

Unusually there were five teams tied at the top of the leader board with 41 points.  Therefore, places had to be decided on a count-back over the last nine holes and if tied again the last six then the last three.  Coming out on top after the count-back with a superb inward half of 22 points was the all Creek member team of club captain Joseph Andrade and left handed New Zealander Mark Dennehey.  After the game Mr Andrade commented; “It goes without saying that the Creek and Carpetland organise a great tournament, and to top it all the Friends of Cancer Patients Charity benefits from the proceeds. Keep it up!”
Winning the runner-up spot with a better last six holes of 14 points was the team of Bayar Khan and Moiz Khan.  They edged into the third place spot the team of Pritam Michandani and Rajeev Puri.  Clinching the final qualifying spot on the count-back were Kouroche Achtari and Sam Feasey.  This meant that despite having matched the winning score of 41 points, the team of Madhav Nair and Shashi Raghavan were left out in the cold with a very average back nine of 18 points.

Winning the nearest the pin prize was Dr Sultan Abdulali who was unlucky that his ball didn’t in fact drop for a hole in one.  The longest drive prize was picked up by up overall runner-up Bayar Khan.

Head Golf Professional at Dubai Creek Stephen Hubner commented, “Here at Dubai Creek we are delighted to be part of the Carpetland series of events.  There is always an enjoyable atmosphere, and with so much going to the ‘Friends of Cancer Patients’ charity we are extremely proud to be involved”.
