Nicoll and Boyle win UAE PGA IP Global Masters while Buchanan goes low

The first event of the UAEPGA Patrons Cup took place at Jebel Ali recently.

The IP Global Masters was the first of three Patrons Cup events in the 2013/14 season and was part of a revamped series of events.

Pitting one UAEPGA professional with an amateur partner, the format played was Betterball Strokeplay and the Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa was the perfect venue to host this.  With the course in fantastic condition, with firm and fast greens which are always tough to hit, it was going to take some exceptional golf to score low.

Defending Patrons Cup Champion Callum Nicoll and his partner Maurice Boyle (5) ran out comfortable winners largely down to a gross eagle/ nett albatross from Boyle on the tough par 4 7th hole, which helped them to an impressive team score of 7under par 65, three shots ahead of Steven Munro and Acuma’s Neil Stewart and the Tower Links pairing of Anthony Buchanan and Miller Green, with Munro and Stewart claiming 2nd place by virtue of a better 2nd nine holes.

Consolation for Buchanan was his individual score of 3under par 69 making him the leading professional on the day, three shots ahead of JGE pro Mark Bull and five ahead of Nicoll and Munro.  This also gives him the lead in the prestigious UAEPGA Patrons Cup, with two events remaining, with the next event taking place at Meydan on Tuesday 25th March.

On course special events were won by ADGC player Kevin Jamieson and IP Global representative Tony Jordan.
Prizes were very kindly donated by DG Golf and David Gray was on hand to hand out the prizes along with Neil Stewart from our Patron Acuma.
