Nicol Heats Up to win the Sharjah 2012 PGA Open

As a cold weather front continued in the UAE the assembled field of Professionals were faced with early morning temperatures colder than usual and a stiff breeze making playing conditions testing on the Sharjah layout.

This posed no problems for the defending champion Callum Nicol who displayed a masterful performance with a scintillating 66 (-6) and a new official course record at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club. With a remarkable 6 birdies and no dropped shots this quickly became the performance of the season as he romped clear by 9 shots from home professional Joe Marshal who’s round of +3 (75) was still a credible score in the conditions. Another notable event of the day was achieved by Andrew Pilfold who made an excellent Hole In One at the 12th hole.
Our congratulations go to Callum on another outstanding achievement in the UAE PGA’s Order of Merit Events.

With this win Callum’s strengthens his position at the top of the Order of Merit and leaves him with a healthy cushion to lay claim to his second consecutive Order of Merit title with 6 events remaining of the season and the Matchplay Championship still to be decided.

Our sincere thanks go to Martin Duff, Director of Golf, and his team at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club for their generous hospitality and assistance in hosting today’s event. The course as always was in excellent condition for the players and we look forward to return to Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club in the future.
