New Website, New Season and Rory Mcilroy

Rory Mcilroy has a deep filled connection with Dubai

Rory Mcilroy in Dubai
We are finally here and we are proud to present you with a brand new UAE Golf Online website. After several months of planning, blood, sweat in the UAE summer and tears, we were pleased to launch version 5 of UAE Golf Online for the exciting coming season.
It has been a long road for the Website and I am personally very pleased to be in the position that we are at the moment. We consider ourselves at a very important crossroads in Golf and with this long overdue upgrade to a responsive layout, we have more power to create better content for all devices and concentrate on other important expansions and partnerships, both on the website in other digital mediums.
I hope you enjoy the look so far, more changes are being implemented as we move forward.

New Season

With the new UAE Golf season upon us and the summer temperatures almost starting to drop (yes we are nearly there everyone) the tournaments are coming thick and fast. Starting with the Mena Golf Tour having their next event at Dubai Creek on the 14th of September, which feels like an unofficial opening of Golf here.

Rory Mcilroy

In the last month or so my head has been deep in the redesign of the website, but I have been meaning to comment on Rory Mcilroy’s achievement and his relation to the UAE. Especially as he has just been given the European Tour Golfer of the month award for the 3rd time in four months.

It was a privilege to see his first Professional win which was here at the Dubai Desert Classic in 2009, I remember seeing the fresh-faced kid with the hat and curly hair (see photo above) and many people they were talking about the potential of a future great with so much raw talent.

From that win, he has played at many of the Golf events in the region (depending on his schedule) and has a deep connection to Dubai. After all, he was sponsored by Jumeirah in the earlier days when he was with Chubby and he regularly spends practice time when in Dubai at the Butch Harmon School of Golf (Els Club).
I have been witness to some cherished memories when Rory has played here. One was when my parents were here and they saw him eagle the Earth Course 18th hole at one of the DP World Tour Championships. They were blown away as they are big armchair fans! (Plus Rory is my dad’s favorite gamble and he has won a many a time).

Since that time I have also been in many press conferences at the DP World Tour Championship, Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and the Dubai Desert Classic listening intently. Watching Rory grow into a media professional and at the same time remain calm, cool and every ounce the pro that he is.

With the dust firmly settled on another superb Major win at the Open championship and the spell of form he has shown, are we now in the firm belief we have the arrival of another superstar ‘Golfing Great’? I hope he continues to fulfill this destiny with many more big wins and in my opinion, he is a close to legendary status on the course, professional in the media and very accessible with the fans from my experiences here, which makes him a credit to the game, unlike some others on tour.
