NBAD Sponsors 39th NBAD Men’s Abu Dhabi Open Golf Championship at Al Ghazal Golf Club this Weekend

The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), The Number One Bank in the UAE and one of the top 50 safest banks in the World, has reconfirmed its sponsorship of the 39th Men’s Abu Dhabi Open Golf Championship, which will be held over the coming weekend of 9th and 10th March 2012 at the Al Ghazal Golf Club (AGGC).

The Open Championship continues to be one of the most popular events of the UAE’s golfing calendar and is an Emirates Golf Federation ‘Order of Merit’ event.

“NBAD is proud to have sponsored the Abu Dhabi Ladies Open for the past 28 years, and this year will be the 5th time we are sponsoring the Abu Dhabi Men’s Open,” said Michael Tomalin, the Group Chief Executive of NBAD.   “We are delighted to continue this sponsorship, as part of our contribution to the social and sporting life of a very special place.  These events are part and parcel of the history of the UAE and a source of pride to UAE nationals and many other nationalities who consider Abu Dhabi their home”.

“The 39th Abu Dhabi Men’s Open is open to both Amateur and Professional Golfers and carries a purse of Dh. 15,000- which is competed for by the Professional Golfers.  Ross Bain [Professional] last 2 years running NBAD Champion is unfortunately unable to defend his title this year, however he did send a message, “unfortunately I cannot defend my title at Al Ghazal this year, but I would like to wish all this year’s competitors the best of luck in what I’m sure will be a keenly contested weekend of golf,” said Ross. This means that the championship is wide open to the top U.A.E. Professionals and Amateurs who have already signed up to play.  Once again the AGGC’s own Teaching Head Professional Mark Ireland will be playing as well as rookie playing Professional Joel Neale.  On the Amateurs side we are pleased to confirm that AGGC’s Calum Mills’ participation, he will be hoping to play as well as his father John who was last year’s best amateur.  Other amateur hopefuls will be past Champion Alex Charawani, Dino Varkey, Michael Harradine and David Gray to name a few from Dubai as well as a visitor from U.K. Norman Llewellyn said Club Manager Angela Scurr”.

The event will start from 7.30 am Friday, spectators are most welcome to come and watch the event unfold and see how golf is played on the best sand course in the Gulf!
