NBAD Sponsors 37th Abu Dhabi Open Golf Championship

The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), The Number One Bank in the UAE and one of the top 50 safest banks in the World, will continue its sponsorship the 37th Men’s Abu Dhabi Open Golf Championship, which will be held over the coming weekend of 19th and 20th March 2010 at the Al Ghazal Golf Club (AGGC).

The Open Championship continues to be one of the most popular events of the UAE’s golfing calendar. A practice round on 18th March is also included in the event and the Golf Desk is already receiving practice round bookings.  Anyone wishing to book may call 02-5758040.

“NBAD is proud to have sponsored the Abu Dhabi Ladies Open for the past 26 years, and this year will be the 3rd time we will be sponsoring the 37th NBAD Abu Dhabi Men’s Open said Mr. Michael Tomalin, the Group Chief Executive of NBAD.
“We are delighted to continue this sponsorship, as part of our contribution to the social and sporting life of a very special place.  As I said last year, all these, and other similar events, are part and parcel of the history of the UAE and a source of pride to UAE nationals and many other nationalities who consider Abu Dhabi their home”.

“AGGC is very proud and honoured to have once again the UAE’s Number One Bank and one of the World’s top 50 Safest Banks, National Bank of Abu Dhabi on board as Prime Sponsor” said Club Captain Will Low.”

“The 37th Abu Dhabi Men’s Open is open to both Amateur and Professional Golfers and carries a purse of Dh. 15,000- which is competed for by the Professional Golfers.  This year we have 10 Professional Golfers competing, we are gratified that although they all normally play on grass, they are once again preparing for the ‘sand’ experience.  We have received over 70 entries which include outside entries from Bahrain and U.K.  We are hopeful that last year’s winner Andrew Marshall will be able to participate, although he is short listed to play in a Tour event he will certainly try to once again defend his NBAD Title.  However, he may find some stiff competition with another Asian Tour player and past Champion Ross Bain [Emirates Golf Club] and Challenge Tour players – Craig Smith and Zane Scotland.  We are also pleased to announce that Ali Musbah [Bahrain] and 4 times past Champion will be competing; Ali is a great competitor and favourite so we are looking to a very exciting event this year, said Low”.
The event will start from 7.30 am this coming Friday, the draw is being prepared for the first round and all competitors will be informed by email and through the Emirates Golf Federation web site.
