Narrow Victory for Singh and Handa at Dubai Creek in the International Pairs

Competition was fierce as members of the famous Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club vied for a place in the inaugural Tech Access International Pairs National Final in May. The Final will also be played at Dubai Creek so whichever team won this particular Qualifier will automatically be installed as favourites to go on to the International Pairs World Final in Scotland.

Patrick Morrow and Adam Sweeney, who finished third in the Emirates Golf Club Qualifier in March held the clubhouse lead for considerable time courtesy of a solid better-ball score of 39 points but were eventually left to rue a no-return on the tough 17th hole when KJ Singh and Naresh Handa came in with 40 points. A net eagle by Handa on this pair’s penultimate hole ultimately proved the difference as they combined this with five net birdies and very few errors to earn that coveted National Final berth.

Morrow and Sweeney returned an impressive card that also featured an eagle as well as six birdies but had to settle for second place, which they secured by countback from Paul King and John Fellingham. Seven points on their last two holes were not enough to undo the damage caused by an average back-9 where this strong pairing managed only 15 points to go with a superb 24 on the outward nine.
There were Nearest-the-Pin prizes on holes 5 and 14, which were won by Paul King and David Gowans.

This was the 15th Qualifying event in the 2010-11 Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac. KJ Singh and Naresh Handa join representatives from Arabian Ranches Golf Club, Abu Dhabi City Golf Club, Abu Dhabi Golf Club, The Montgomerie Dubai, Al Ghazal Golf Club, Jumeirah Golf Estates, The Els Club, Emirates Golf Club, Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club, Yas Links, Al Hamra Golf Cub, Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club, Tower Links Golf Club and Emirates Golf Federation whose names are already in the National Final draw. The next and final Qualifying event is on 6th May when International Pairs UAE pays its first visit to Al Ain and members of Al Ain Equestrian Golf & Shooting Club have the opportunity to be involved in the only Club Members’ international event in the UAE. International Pairs UAE is sponsored by Tech Access, Cadillac, Diamond Developers, Emirates Healthcare Ltd. and partnered by Park Hyatt Dubai, Delwood, Nike Golf, Sport 360, Worldwide Golf and UAE Golf Online.
