Nanda narrowly beats Nair in the first round of the Dubai Golf Junior Tournament Series

Dubai Golf recently hosted its first Junior Tournament which is part of the brand new Dubai Golf Junior Series. The event was played on the 9 hole Par 3 course at Emirates Golf Club, where a strong field of 72 budding golfers competed in near perfect conditions.

The series will comprise of eight individual events that will be held at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and Emirates Golf Club.  This new initiative by the Dubai Golf Academy Professionals is to help guide young golfers from the driving range onto the golf course.  Over 500 juniors currently participate in weekly lessons at the two clubs as part of the renowned junior development programmes.

Stephen Deane, Head Academy Professional at Emirates Golf Club said, “The day was enjoyed by all and it was great to watch the juniors showcasing their skills in a competitive environment, the hard work they have been doing in their weekly lessons has been worth it!”

Juniors compete in one of five categories and prizes were awarded for the winners and runners up in each, winning participants also received order of merit points that will determine the overall series winner. The weather and course condition added to some fantastic scoring during the event, which was a great start to the Dubai Golf Junior Series.

 

In the Masters division Dubai Creek’s Kabir Nanda put in a superb performance to beat Dhruv Nair by one shot.  Mark Baxter was victorious in the gold division by three shots and George Erasmus from Emirates Golf Club dominated the silver division by six shots.  Other winners were Annika Shivpuri in the bronze and Juha Leinonen in the cadet divisions.
